“Code for Ukraine” will support war-affected Ukrainian youth with internationally instructed computer science and human-centered design education.
January 20, 2024— As its final pilot program of 2024, Code.X will launch “Code for Ukraine,” the 12-month adaptation of Code.X’s 24-month youth entrepreneurship program for high school students. Code for Ukraine will take place in Western Ukraine and will be co-hosted with Help Us Help, a Canadian charitable organization that supports humanitarian projects in Canada and Ukraine. Code for Ukraine students will take concurrent computer science and human-centered design classes from international instructors. Code for Ukraine will kick off on July 5, 2024.
The ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia has had a devastating impact on the country, particularly on its youth. Many children have been orphaned or directly affected by the violence and instability caused by the war. These children not only face the trauma of war but also suffer from educational and economic disadvantages, limiting their future prospects. In response to this need, the Code for Ukraine program aims to provide life-changing technical education and personal skills development to Ukraine's war-affected youth. The program focuses on empowering these young individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the digital age, preparing them for future career opportunities and enabling them to become agents of change within their communities.
10th grade students (ages 15-16) are eligible to apply for the Code for Ukraine 2024-2025 cohort, which includes 12 months of highly motivated, dedicated program participation. Students will begin with a 14-day summer camp in 2024, followed by a 14-day winter camp in 2025, before graduating after a final 14-day summer camp in 2025. Students will practice the skills they learn over the summer with additional twice-monthly extracurricular classes between camps.
