All program-related room and board, meals, and transportation on-the-ground are covered. You will be reimbursed for approved airfare and travel insurance to/from your teaching location, typically up to $1500. This almost always covers the full cost of travel, but any costs that exceed this need to be covered by you.

Our curriculum is developed in-house and licensed to partners by Code.X. Curriculum topics and student final projects are designed based on the program type and student age.
Our standard courses:
Ages 14-15: Programming Basics in Python, Introduction to Creative Mindsets
Ages 15-16: Mobile Development in React Native, Design Thinking
Ages 16-17: Mobile Development in React Native, Web Development in React.js, UI/UX and Visual Design
Our curriculum is updated each year based on instructor feedback and industry guidelines. Instructors have access to suggested activities and previous years' lessons when developing lesson plans.

For our Computer Science courses, most instructors are 2+ years into completing a technical or CS degree in the US or Canada (or have equivalent industry experience); all are comfortable with multiple programming languages.
For our Human-Centered Design courses, most instructors have relevant coursework or experience in design, design thinking, and/or improvisation as applied to the US/Canadian tech spaces.
All of our instructors MUST have a strong interest in teaching youth – this nearly always defines our most successful instructors.

Aside from technical experience, there are occasionally travel constraints that may limit which programs you can apply to. All instructors are privy to the border crossing requirements of their host country and must obtain the appropriate travel visas and permits. Citizenship requirements differ by program and are listed under each program’s description.

No – all instruction is in English and students must pass an English test to be accepted into our programs. However, students have varying levels of English proficiency, so we’ll cover tips and strategies for addressing this during instructor training.
-
Our instructors are given the same training and curriculum guidelines regardless of which program they have been accepted to. However, there are differences in program experience across locations due to the influence of our local partner organizations. Our partner organizations are co-owners of the program and shape its design and on-the-ground culture. As such, each location gives a different experience for cultural activities, immersion, and camp structure.
-
Due to our focus on refugee and under-served populations, many of our programs are hosted in areas that may be marked as “Reconsider Travel” or “Do Not Travel” on the U.S. Travel Advisory. Code.X and our partner organizations ensure that each program location is safe to travel to – and especially so in the areas that our instructors will be located. We have strict safety standards that are continually reassessed up until the date that instructors begin their travel.
In the years that we have run our programs, we fortunately haven’t had a single safety incident with any of our volunteer instructors or students, outside of the normal bumps and scrapes that happen during summer camps. To ensure safety, we do have restrictions on traveling away from camp premises alone or without notice.
Instructors will be provided with detailed safety guidelines for their program during instructor training. All instructors are required to purchase travel insurance as part of their participation in the program.

As a student or TA alumni, you are subject to the same acceptance criteria as any other instructors! Please check the technical qualifications and citizenship requirements for any programs you are interested in.
Keep in mind that university-age program graduates are eligible to return to their local programs as TAs, and graduated/working program graduates are eligible to return to their local programs as yearlong instructors.
